As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
In our last session we completed the Introduction to the Quran Part 4 by explaining the History of the Quran.
Today, 5-August-2026 corresponding to 21-Safar-1448 Hijri, we will talk about Part 5 – Quran and Science.
Part 5 – Quran and Science
We have divided this topic into 7 sections
1. Introduction

Dr. Maurice Bucaille was a renowned French doctor, known primarily for his book “The Bible, The Quran and Science” which he published in 1976 following his study of the mummy of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II.[1]

Prior to this our Ustaaz Dr. Mir Aneesuddin, who was a geologist by profession and the president of the Islamic Academy of Sciences, had started publishing articles on Quran aur Science, in an Indian Magazine, Radiance, during the mid-1960s.[2] His works on Quran and Science was published through several books,
- “The Quran, Science and the Universe” was published in 1981 by Islamic Academy of Sciences, India
- “The Universe seen through the Quran” was published in 1999 by al-Attique Publishers Inc., Canada[3]
- “Scientific Facts in the Glorious Quran” was published jointly in 2004 by Islamic Heritage Foundation in coordination with Islamic Academy of Sciences.[4]
2. Proof of the Existence of Allah
A Muslim scientist came to Dr. Anees and said, being a scientist, why are you getting involved in these old fashioned and ridiculous things, why are you talking about Allah, Rasool, Quran and Hadith;
- That Muslim scientist wanted to say that there is no God in this universe.
- So, Dr. Anees asked, what proof do you have that Allah does not exist?
- …Say, “Bring your proof if you are truthful.”[5]
- And if you don’t have proof, then don’t waste time talking about this topic.
- Because, as proof, I will present before you the entire universe created by Allah, and will quote from the words of Allah.
- Think about it, if Dr. Anees used the entire universe as a proof of the existence of Allah, then what is left for the other person to debate on?
Dr. Anees used to give another example in this regard, that if one wants to praise someone, then one has to find out what that person did, for example;
- If we want to praise a painter, we will have to understand his art, and only then can we appreciate what he has painted and then praise his work,
- Likewise, if we want to appreciate a cricketer or a footballer, then we have to understand cricket or football and then know how good that cricketer or footballer is, we must know their achievements in cricket or football,
- Only then can we praise the sportsman,
- Similarly, to understand what Allah (رَبُّ الْعِزَّة) has created, we must understand his creation, understand what he has done.
- Allah Ta’ala has created this universe and set the laws to govern it, so we have to understand the universe, how it functions, understand the laws of nature that govern everything in the Universe to be able to appreciate his work and say:
اَلۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَۙ
- Praise is due only for Allah, the Rabb, (the Lord, the Fosterer, the Cherisher, the Maintainer) of the worlds.[6]
- But we cannot see Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى), but still we are able to appreciate His work, identify that He exists and it is through His creation, the mighty Universe, we see His signs everywhere and we exclaim:
- …O our Fosterer! You have not created this in vain. You are Glorified (above all) so save us from the punishment of the fire.[7]
3. Understanding the Quran
To understand the Holy Quran,
- As far as the Shari’ah of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is concerned, for this, we will refer back to our predecessors (as-Salaf us-Saliheen).
- However, regarding matters that relate to scientific facts, we will keep our mind open in this matter, and we will benefit from the latest knowledge on modern science, because Science is the study of the laws of nature that Allah (SWT) has created. We will attempt to understand certain verses of the Quran in the light of this knowledge.
- Some scholars here are of the opinion that we should not look toward the predecessors regarding science, but there are some things said by Rehmatul-lil-Alameen (صلى الله عليه وسلم) that Science is not yet capable enough to explain what Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) had said.
- It is necessary to clarify one more thing, that we are dividing knowledge into two parts:
- One is revealed knowledge, which we received from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) in the form of the Quran, or in the form of Ahadith.
- The second is acquired knowledge; the method of obtaining this knowledge is different. It is received by humans indirectly from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى), but for this, it is necessary to know and examine the laws of nature—meaning that observation, inquiry and experimentation, confirmation and inference are necessary.”
- When Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was asked about some verses that deal with Science, he has explained such things in a very simple manner, this also becomes part of the revealed knowledge, some examples I have highlighted in one of my articles – “Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) the Greatest Scientist”, which is available on Quranic Resources website.[8]
- Some examples from that article we will mention in the next sections.
4. Some Questions Answered
In the Introduction to the Quran – Part 1, we have already talked about the deep connection between human beings and science and we had asked some questions but had not provided answers. These questions will be answered in these sections;
- First of all, please understand that in any matter, if there is a clash or even a perceived disagreement between revealed knowledge (Quran and Hadith) and acquired knowledge (human reason or science), revealed knowledge will always be given priority. There are no two opinions about this.
- Often, people think there is a conflict (between the revealed knowledge and the acquired knowledge) when there actually isn’t. The real issue is that no one explains religion to scientists in a way they can relate to, and on the other hand no one teaches science to religious scholars.
- This has created a massive gap that is very difficult to bridge. This divide has existed for a long time, and it is unclear how much longer it will continue. Because of this gap, the community has faced yet another major division.
- But this gap did not exist before. There was only one university at that time — the University of Rasoolullah He not only taught the companions, but he practically demonstrated by acting upon what he preached (صلى الله عليه وسلم), which not only covered Religion, but also along with it, the related and hidden knowledge of science also was explained by him in simple terms.
- The Holy Quran has more than 1,000 ayaat that deal exclusively with science, and we are not talking about some theories someone presented but advanced and established science, such as;
- Quantum physics,
- Embryology,
- Psychology,
- Economics,
- Law,
- Political sciences,
- Astronomy,
- Fluid mechanics,
- Aerodynamics,
- Water Cycle,
- Geology,
- Metallurgy,
- etc.
5. What is the relation between Human Beings and Science?
Whenever Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was asked about this universe, he explained it in a very simple way so that people could understand. But those simple explanations and easy to understand statements of ar-Rasool (صلى الله عليه وسلم) contain very deep science hidden within them, such as;
5.1. Space is curved
Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was once asked: “what is this sky (universe)?” He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied: “It is a stationary wave”.[9]
- Space, as it appears to us, contains all the matter and energy of the universe. It is three – dimensional and length is one dimension.
- Dr. Einstein considers space to be real. According to him universe is not a kind of an island in an infinite space.
- George Gamov is of the opinion that space is curved.
- So, when a scientist hears the above hadith, although it is a daif hadith, he will say that ar-Rasool (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is referring to the curvature of space.
- The simple statement of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) made 1,450 years ago has now been confirmed by scientists through research, fairly recently that: space is curved.
5.2. Time
Time as we know of, think of, and use in our calculations in our day to affairs is apparent time. It is event driven, such as going to office at 10am, we know it, and it is relative in nature i.e. it is related to some event, incident or accident in our day-to-day lives.
- Contrary to this there is Real time, it is absolute in nature, and we cannot describe it, but can only feel it. If we concentrate our consciousness on time i.e. pay full attention to it by cutting ourselves completely off internal influences of breathing, heartbeat, etc. we feel Real time as something passing by or flowing past, yet we cannot express this feeling in words.
- The very fact that we measure time is sufficient proof of its existence as an entity. If time did not exist, we would not have been able to measure it.
- Let us therefore try to prove the existence of time (Real) with the help of an analogy: The domestic electricity meter in our houses measures the amount of current flowing through it, and it is a proof that electricity exists although we cannot see electricity itself.
- We only see its effect, lights are On, AC is running, Microwave heats your food, etc.
- Similarly, the rotation and revolution of the earth is used by humans to measure time, one rotation of the earth is called one day and thirty rotations, is called a month and 365 rotations or one revolution around the sun, is called a year.
- An electricity meter is not a pre-requisite for the flow of current, it is only an indicator. In the absence of the meter current can exist, similarly, time could exist even in the absence of heavenly bodies i.e. it could have existed before their creation and could continue to exist after their end.
- Real time which we feel, and experience might be the ultimate reality, which the philosophers and atheists are looking for.[10]
- The power that moves the heavenly bodies and the Ultimate Reality according to the Quran, is Allah SWT.
- That is because Allah is the Reality and that which they call upon besides Him, that is falsehood and because Allah, He is the High, the Great.[11]
- This power, based on the analogy of current and philosophical considerations (from Bergson), is seen to be Real Time. This forces us to conclude that Real Time is God. No verse of the Quran directly supports this conclusion, but it appears in a Muttafiqun Alaih hadith in Bukhari and Muslim, Hadith Qudsi where Allah Ta’ala says:
- ‘The son of Adam hurts me for he abuses Time, though I am Time: in My Hands are all things, and I cause the revolution of day and night.’[12]
- The statement that ‘I am the One Who alternates the day and the night’ is confirmed through various verses of the Quran, which not only supports the statement of Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم), but also shows the coordination between the Quran and the ahadith of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
5.3. End of the Present Universe
When the material universe collapses and everything perishes in a fiery chaos, man being part of the universe may have to participate in the event, in whatever form he might be, being as helpless to avoid it as any inanimate object. When the primeval atom formed from the collapsing universe explodes and a new generation of galaxies, stars, etc. are created, where will man be? The Quran summarizing these events states:
وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَصَعِقَ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا مَنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ۖ ثُمَّ نُفِخَ فِيهِ أُخْرَىٰ فَإِذَا هُمْ قِيَامٌ يَنْظُرُونَ
- And it will be blown into the trumpet (structure of the universe), so whoever is in the skies and whoever is in the earth will fall down senseless except he whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown into it a second time when they will stand seeing.[13]
- There is a hadith in Bukhari and Muslim, in which Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, Between the two blowings of the trumpet (there would be an interval of forty). They said: O Abu Huraira, do you mean forty days? He said: I cannot say anything. They said: Do you mean forty months? He said: I cannot say anything. They said: Do you mean forty years? He said: I cannot say anything. Then Allah would cause the water to descend from the sky and they (people) will sprout like vegetables. The only thing in a man which would not decay would be one bone (the tailbone) from which the whole frame would be reconstituted on the Day of Resurrection.[14]
- This hadith contains two scientific facts, the point that I want to highlight in this hadith is, the relativity of time, a scientific concept proposed by Einstein about a century ago and Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) explained it with such ease and in such simple terms 1300 years before Einstine, when the skies and the earth are not there, where is the concept of time.
- Because our time is related to the rotation and revolution of the earth. The moment we leave earth and go to Mars for example, then based on the rotation and revolution of Mars the concept of time changes completely.
- 1 day on earth is 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 seconds. It is the amount of time it takes for the earth to complete one full rotation.
- Likewise, 1 day on Mars (or 1 Sol as it is called) is 24 hours, 39 minutes, and 35 seconds.
- So basically, 1 Mars hour is equal to 1 hour, 1 minute, and 39 seconds in Earth time.
- From this example, I believe it is clear that time depends on the object of reference; it is relative to the object of reference.
- Therefore, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) did not mention the unit of time, he just said 40 as the entire universe is not there and Abu Hurairah (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) also transmitted the hadith as is, without adding any of his interpretation.
- This is our Nabi, only a Rasool can do this, the level of knowledge, explaining complex concepts, the simplicity of explanation, etc. it humbles me to believe in Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) as our prophet and Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) as our Rabb and the Rabb of everything.
5.4. The Bridge over Hell or Bridge to the next Universe (as-Siraat)
- From the hadith of Umm ul-Momineen, Ayesha (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهَا) who narrates, I asked Allah’s Messenger SAWS about the words of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى):
يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ ٱلْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ۖ وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلْوَٰحِدِ ٱلْقَهَّارِ
- The day on which the earth will be changed to other than the (present) earth and the skies (too), and they will appear before Allah, the One, the Omnipotent.[15]
- (and inquired): (Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم)), where would the people be on that day?” He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied: They would be on as-Sirat.[16]
- This hadith gives me goosebumps,…, first, it shows the level of knowledge of the questioner, the question is simple and logical, when there is no earth and no skies, where will the people be?
- The answer was even simpler, one word answer, but it encompasses the entire process of the end of the universe.
- I believe,…, based on this hadith that humanity will be transported from one universe to the other.
- We just heard the hadith about human beings will be recreated from a part of the tailbone.
- In another hadith in Sahih Ibn Hibban, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, Everything of the human body is consumed by the earth except the tailbone. It was asked: What is it, O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم), He said: Like a mustard seed. From it they will be recreated.[17]
- Transporting these seeds to another universe is easy for Allah Ta’ala. as-Sirat as indicated in the hadith of Aisha (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهَا) could mean that a bridge is created between the two universes, new and old.
- The only explanation of this meta-physical prediction Science can give is that it could only theorize about the Multiverse – as it is almost impossible to observe or test these theories.
- Wallahu Alam.
- Through the above examples, I have tried to provide a glimpse into what the Quran and Ahadith contain about science, and science also has only just begun to scratch the surface of the knowledge, the universe contains and it has not reached that level to be able to explain some of the facts mentioned in Quran and ahadith of Rasoolullah
- This was the explanation of the relation between Human Beings and Science.
6. Where does the relationship between Human Beings and Science falter
In this section, we will analyze the limitations of this relationship between Human Beings and science;
- First is the case of grafting of date palm trees, when Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) migrated to Madina, he encountered some people who were grafting date-palm trees (combining male and female trees to increase fruit yield). When he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) asked what they were doing, they explained their grafting practice.
- The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) advised against the practice, suggesting it might not be beneficial,
- The people accepted his advice and discontinued the grafting practice.
- The consequence was that, once they stopped grafting, the yield of dates declined significantly. The people then informed Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) about this negative outcome.
- So, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) clarified about the nature of his guidance that,
- As far as religious matters are concerned, His commands must be accepted without question, as he speaks on behalf of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى),
- For worldly matters or something related to technical skills, he said, if there is benefit in it, you know better, and should rely on your expertise and can avoid my opinion.[18]
- Some Ulama believe that this hadith shows that, ilm of deen is different than the ilm of duniya, but this is not the whole truth, as we understood in the previous section that Quran and Science contain latest science in them,
- Also, Quran and Ahadith do not keep a record of all the scientific phenomena that exist in the universe, it only contains those facts that are required for Human Beings to lead a peaceful life on earth,
- Countless scientific advancements are happening today, that are not explicitly mentioned in the Quran or Hadith, here are some examples;
- Gene correction, or gene therapy, is now being used to treat inherited diseases that run into families. If a person has a disorder in their genes, doctors are trying to correct it so the gene can work properly, the way it should.
- In the human body, genes can be turned ON or OFF. If a gene was supposed to be turned ON but is actually turned OFF for some reason, gene therapy is being used to switch it back ON. And if a gene is not working correctly, it is being turned OFF.
- A piece of DNA is also being removed if it is affecting other genes or causing illness.[19]
- And as we just saw from the three ahadith in Sahih Muslim, if there is benefit in something, it can be adopted and followed.
- In another hadith in Sahih Muslim, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, there is a cure for every disease, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى).[20]
- So indirectly, there is a mention of all types of diseases.
- Second, we have the story of the Prisoners of the Battle of Badr, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) allowed prisoners to ransom themselves and who could not afford to pay the ransom, each person was to teach 10 Muslim children, how to read and write, once the child had been proficient enough, the instructor would be set free.[21]
- While Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was present, this ilm was considered worldly knowledge, still it was given preference.
- In the Indian subcontinent, since this knowledge is related to learning Arabic, it is considered part of the knowledge of our religion.
- So, it is a matter of perspective, anyhow knowledge is knowledge.
- Third, In Surah Luqman, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) says that certain knowledge is with Him alone;
- The knowledge of the hour of doom is certainly with Allah. And He sends down the rain. And He knows that which is in the wombs. And no person knows what he will earn tomorrow (in future). And no person knows in what (part of) the earth he will die. Allah is certainly Knowing, Informed.[22]
- The knowledge of when the Yawm al-Qiyamah will come is only with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى),
- But, Nowadays, rainfall is possible through cloud seeding, humans have become successful in producing rain from a specific type of cloud. In the UAE, Qatar, Oman, China, and other places, this artificially produced rain is being used for agriculture.
- From the ahadith where Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) informed the Companions (رضي الله عنهم) about Dajjal, we learn that the Dajjal (or the Antichrist) will have control over rain; he will withhold rainfall from those regions where the people refuse to accept him as their god.[23]
- So, we are talking about a kind of warfare, and humans have now become capable of controlling it.

- From the report in New York Times, 3-July-1972, Rainmaking is used as a Weapon by the US, you can google it and this article is available from their archives.[24]
- So, are we still waiting for Dajjal? Don’t get me wrong, I am only asking a question.
- The third point in this ayah is that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) knows what is in the womb of the mother,
- This point actually became a controversy, because of some urdu translations, where the translator said, what is inside the mother’s womb is only known by Allah. A 100 years ago, no one had any problem with this translation, only Allah knows, but as technology progressed, using ultrasound now Humans also can know what is inside the womb, is it a boy or a girl?
- The phrase (وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ) could be understood in many different ways,
- Whether the woman is capable of conceiving a child or not?
- Or the nutrients the child receives, its development, its health, and its illnesses — we know nothing about these.
- We only find out whether it is a boy or a girl through a scan, and that too only after a certain stage in the pregnancy process. In India, this has become an industry, and if they find out the child is a girl, she is killed before birth.
- But Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) knows right from the time of conception, what is in the womb, whether he/she will be good or evil, whether it will be male or female, He knows the child’s deeds and actions, its qadar, He knows when it will die and what he/she will earn.[25]
- A lot could be said here, but we have to restrict ourselves due to the limitation of time.
- Fourth point is that Allah knows what the child is going to earn, you do not know, but Allah knows
- In today’s era of information technology. Subjects like Big Data and Data Science are being studied and taught.
- As soon as people start using computers and mobile phones, their details enter into Big Data from Big Tech Companies. Today, many things are being predicted, such as what customers will buy, and much more.
- There isn’t room to go into detail here, but we will discuss this verse in depth when we come to it later.
- Fifth point is that Allah knows in which part of the earth you will die, you do not know where you will die and will be buried, but Allah knows
- We do not know where our death will come.
- In 2014, Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur with 227 passengers and 12 crew members, but it never arrived at the destination.
- To this day, the exact accident site is unknown. There is an estimate that it crashed in the South Indian Ocean, but the exact details remain unclear.
- Despite all of humanity’s scientific progress, this has not been discovered.
- It is unknown who will die where. In this case, all 239 people on MH370 died together in one place.
- Through these verses and hadiths, the faltering relationship between humans and science has been highlighted. Science is gradually turning humans into its servants, and the points of disconnection have been explained.
7. The limit of the relationship between Human Beings and Science
So, what is the limit of this relationship?
- The hadith in Sahih Muslim, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, Men will continue to question one another till this is propounded: Allah created all things but who created Allah? He who found himself confronted with such a situation should say: I affirm my faith in Allah.[26]
- This is the limit of the relationship between Human Beings and Science, because we believe Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) has always been there and He will always remain. Huwa al-Awwalu wal-Akhir. He is the First and He is the Last. No one comes before Him and no one is there after him, He is the Last to remain.
- And in the lifetime of Sahaba (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُمْ) someone already asked this question. In a hadith in Sahih Muslim, Abu Huraira (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) said: …Once we were in the mosque that some of the Bedouins came there and said: Well, there is Allah, but who created Allah? He (the narrator) said: I took hold of the pebbles in my fist and flung at them and remarked: Stand up, stand up (go away) my friend (the Holy Prophet) told the truth.[27]
This universe, which Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) created, will come to an end.
- Today, scientists are trying everything to know and find out when this universe will end. But as we have heard, only Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) has this knowledge. No matter what they do, they cannot discover this.
- After that, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) will bring everyone back to life, and the Day of Judgment will occur. There will be accountability. Those who pass the test of this world will enter Paradise and will remain there forever.
- Those who fail the test of this world will enter Hell and will remain there forever.
- These are matters about which science has no answer. Here the connection with science ends. Science cannot tell us about things beyond this universe. Science cannot tell us about Paradise and Hell.
In a hadith in Sahih Muslim Rasoolullah said, The Last Hour would come (when) the Romans would form a majority amongst the people, and they will have 5 qualities in them;
- They have the patience to undergo a trial and
- Immediately restore themselves to sanity after trouble and attack again after flight.
- They (have the quality) of being good to the destitute and the orphans,
- (And being good) to the weak and,
- fifthly, the good quality in them is that they put resistance against the oppression of kings.[28]
- These qualities of the Christians are being given a lot of attention these days. We should not be influenced by them.
- By combining these qualities with science, they are leading the world astray.
- Then after this Dajjal will come and break all the rules.
- Dajjal will use very advanced science and technology and will use it according to his own agenda.
- We have already heard about weather as warfare. He will work in similar ways.
- Today we are talking about organ transplants. Dajjal will cut a person with a sword and separate the two parts of his body from each other, as far as an archer’s arrow can travel (around an average of 450m). Then when he calls him, that person will stand up and come forward, laughing.
- For those who witness these events, it will be the greatest trial. As the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) has said.
- Dajjal is not someone who will follow the Quran and Hadith. He will claim to be God. He will say, “I am your Lord.”
- And people will obey him, as they should obey Allah.
- We must understand the limits of science. Because if you do not use science in the light of the Quran and Hadith, then science is nothing but the fitna of ad-Dajjal. How else can we describe today’s science?
- This is what Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) warned us about.
Here we will end our today’s session, and our next session, we will deal with its topic next week In Sha Allah.
Wa aakhirud dawaana anil hamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen,
Allahumma Salli, wa Sallim, wa Barik Ala Nabiyyina Muhammad, wa ala aalihi, wa sahbihi wa barik wa sallim.

[14] Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Between the two blowing of the trumpet there will be forty.” The people said, “O Abu Huraira! Forty days?” I refused to reply. They said, “Forty years?” I refused to reply and added: Everything of the human body will decay except the coccyx bone (of the tail) and from that bone Allah will reconstruct the whole body.

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Between the two blowings of the trumpet (there would be an interval of forty). They said: Abu Huraira, do you mean forty days? He said: I cannot say anything. They said: Do you mean forty months? He said: I cannot say anything. They said: Do you mean forty years? He said: I cannot say anything. Then Allah would cause the water to, descend from the sky and they (people) will sprout like vegetable. The only thing in a man which would not decay would be one bone (the tailbone) from which the whole frame would be reconstituted on the Day of Resurrection.

[16] ‘A’isha reported: I asked Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) about the words of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious:” The day when the earth would be changed for another earth and Heaven would be changed for another Heaven (XiV. 48), (and inquired: ) (Allah’s Messenger), where would the people be on that day? He said: They would be on the Sirat.

[18] Musa b. Talha reported: I and Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) happened to pass by people near the date-palm trees. He (the Holy Prophet) said: What are these people doing? They said: They are grafting, i. e. they combine the male with the female (tree) and thus they yield more fruit. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: I do not find it to be of any use. The people were informed about it and they abandoned this practice. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) (was later) on informed (that the yield had dwindled), whereupon he said: If there is any use of it, then they should do it, for it was just a personal opinion of mine, and do not go after my personal opinion; but when I say to you anything on behalf of Allah, then do accept it, for I do not attribute lie to Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.

Rafi’ b. Khadij reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) came to Medina and the people had been grafting the trees. He said: What are you doing? They said: We are grafting them, whereupon he said: It may perhaps be good for you if you do not do that, so they abandoned this practice (and the date-palms) began to yield less fruit. They made a mention of it (to the Holy Prophet), whereupon he said: I am a human being, so when I command you about a thing pertaining to religion, do accept it, and when I command you about a thing out of my personal opinion, keep it in mind that I am a human being. ‘Ikrima reported that he said something like this.

Anas reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) happened to pass by the people who had been busy in grafting the trees. Thereupon he said: If you were not to do it, it might be good for you. (So they abandoned this practice) and there was a decline in the yield. He (the Holy Prophet) happened to pass by them (and said): What has gone wrong with your trees? They said: You said so and so. Thereupon he said: You have better knowledge (of a technical skill) in the affairs of the world.

[22] Al Quran, Surah Luqman, Chapter 31: Verse 34
[23] Nawwas bin Sam’an Al-Kilabi said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mentioned Dajjal, one morning, as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees. When we came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the evening, he saw that (fear) in us, and said: ‘What is the matter with you?’ We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned Dajjal this morning, and you spoke of him as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees.’ He said: ‘There are things that I fear more for you than the Dajjal. If he appears while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf, and if he appears when I am not among you, then each man must fend for himself, and Allah will take care of every Muslim on my behalf. He (Dajjal) will be a young man with curly hair and a protuberant eye; I liken him to ‘Abdul-‘Uzza bin Qatan. Whoever among you sees him, let him recite the first Verses of Surat Al-Kahf over him. He will emerge from Khallah, between Sham and Iraq, and will wreak havoc right and left. O slaves of Allah, remain steadfast.’ We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, how long will he stay on earth?’ He said: ‘Forty days, one day like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of his days like your days.’ We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, on that day which is like a year, will the prayers of one day suffice us?’ He said: ‘Make an estimate of time (and then observe prayer).’ We said: ‘How fast will he move through the earth?’ He said: ‘Like a rain cloud driving by the wind.’ He said: ‘He will come to some people and call them, and they will respond and believe in him. Then he will command the sky to rain and it will rain, and he will command the earth to produce vegetation and it will do so, and their flocks will come back in the evening with their humps taller, their udders fuller and their flanks fatter than they have ever been. Then he will come to some (other) people and call them, and they will reject him, so he will turn away from them and they will suffer drought and be left with nothing. Then he will pass through the wasteland and will say: “Bring forth your treasures,” then go away, and its treasures will follow him like a swarm of bees. Then he will call a man brimming with youth and will strike him with a sword and cut him in two. He will put the two pieces as far apart as the distance between an archer and his target. Then he will call him and he will come with his face shining, laughing. While they are like that, Allah will send ‘Eisa bin Maryam, who will come down at the white minaret in the east of Damascus, wearing two Mahrud[garment dyed with Wars and then Saffron], resting his hands on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, beads of perspiration will fall from it. Every disbeliever who smells the fragrance of his breath will die, and his breath will reach as far as his eye can see. Then he will set out and catch up with him (the Dajjal) at the gate of Ludd, and will kill him. Then the Prophet of Allah ‘Eisa will come to some people whom Allah has protected, and he will wipe their faces and tell them of their status in Paradise. While they are like that, Allah will reveal to him: “O ‘Eisa, I have brought forth some of My slaves whom no one will be able to kill, so take My slaves to Tur in safety.” Then Gog and Magog will emerge and they will, as Allah describes, “swoop down from every mound.”[21:96] The first of them will pass by lake Tiberias and drink from it, then the last of them will pass by it and will say: “There was water here once.” The Prophet of Allah, ‘Eisa and his companions will be besieged there until the head of an ox would be dearer to any one of them than one hundred Dinar are to any one of you today. Then, the Prophet of Allah, ‘Eisa and his companions will supplicate Allah. Then Allah will send a worm in their necks and the next morning they will all die as one. The Prophet of Allah ‘Eisa and his companions will come down and they will not find even the space of a hand span that is free of their stink, stench and blood. They will pray to Allah, and He will send birds with necks like the necks of Bactrian camels, which will pick them up and throw them wherever Allah wills. Then Allah will send rain which will not leave any house of clay or hair, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it like a mirror (or a smooth rock). Then it will be said to the earth: “Bring forth your fruits and bring back your blessing.” On that day a group of people will eat from a (single) pomegranate and it will suffice them, and they will seek shelter beneath its skin. Allah will bless a milch- camel so that it will be sufficient for a large number of people, and a milch-cow will be sufficient for a whole tribe and a milch-ewe will be sufficient for a whole clan. While they are like that, Allah will send a pleasant wind which will seize them beneath their armpits and will take the soul of every Muslim, leaving the rest of the people fornicating like donkeys, and upon them will come the Hour.'”

Grade: Sahih (Darussalam) | Reference: Sunan Ibn Majah 4075
It was narrated from An-Nawwas bin Sam’an, who said: “The Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) mentioned the Dajjal one morning, he belittled him and mentioned his importance until we thought that he might be amidst a cluster of date-palms.” He said: “We departed from the presence of the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w), then we returned to him, and he noticed that(concern) in us. So he said: ‘What is wrong with you?'” We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! You mentioned the Dajjal this morning, belittling him, and mentioning his importance until we thought that he might be amidst a cluster of the date-palms.’ He said: ‘It is not the Dajjal that I fear for you. If he were to appear while I am among you, then I will be his adversary on your behalf. And if he appears and I am not among you, then each man will have to fend for himself. And Allah will take care of every Muslim after me. He is young, with curly hair, his eyes protruding, resembling someone from ‘Abdul-Uzza bin Qatan. Whoever among you sees him, then let him recite the beginning of Surah Ashab Al-Kahf.'”He said: ‘He will appear from what is between Ash-Sham and Al-‘Iraq, causing devastation toward the right and toward the left. O worshippers of Allah! Hold fast!'” We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! How long will he linger on the earth?’ He said: ‘Forty days, a day like a year, a day like a month, a day like a week, and the remainder of his days are like your days.'” We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Do you think that during the day that is like a year, the Salat of one day will be sufficient for us?’ He said: ‘No. You will have to estimate it.’ We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! How fast will he move through the earth.’ He said: ‘Like a rain storm driven by the wind. He will come upon a people and call them, and they will deny him, and reject his claims. Then he will leave them, and their wealth will follow him. They will awaken in the morning with nothing left. Then he will come upon a people and call them, and they will respond to him, believing in him. So he will order the Heavens to bring rain, and it shall rain, and he will order the land to sprout, and it will sprout. Their cattle will return to them with their coats the longest, their udders the fullest and their stomachs the fattest.’ He said: ‘Then he will come upon some ruins, saying to it: “Bring me your treasures!” He will turn to leave it, and it will follow him, like drone bees. Then he will call a young man, full of youth, and he will strike him with the sword cutting him into two pieces. Then he will call him, and he will come forward with his face beaming and laughing. So while he is doing that, ‘Eisa bin Mariam, peace be upon him, will descend in eastern Damascus at the white minaret, between two Mahrud, with his hands on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, drops fall, and when raises it, gems like pearls drop from him.’ He said: ‘His (the Dajjal’s) breath does not reach anyone but he dies, and his breath reaches as far as his sight.’ He said: ‘So he pursues him(the Dajjal) and he catches up with him at the gate of Ludd where he kills him.’ He said: ‘So he remains there as long as Allah wills.’ He said: ‘Then Allah reveals to him: “Take my slaves to At-Tur, for I have sent down some creatures of Mine which no one shall be able to kill.'” He said: ‘Allah dispatches Ya’juj and Ma’juj, and they are as Allah said: They swoop down from every mount.’ “He said: ‘The first of them pass by the lake of Tiberias, drinking what is in it. Then the last of them pass by it saying: “There was water here at one time.” They travel until they reach a mountain at Bait Al-Maqdis. They will say: “We have killed whoever was in the earth. Come! Let us kill whoever is in the skies.” They will shoot their arrows into the Heavens, so Allah will return their arrows to them red with blood. Eisa bin Mariam and his Companions be surrounded, until the head of a bull on that day would be better to them than a hundred Dinar to one of you today.’ “He (s.a.w) said: “Eisa will beseech Allah, as will his companions.’ He said: ‘So Allah will send An-Naghaf down upon their necks. In the morning they will find that they have all died like the death of a single soul.’ He said: ” ‘Eisa and his companions will come down, and no spot nor hand-span can be found, except that it is filled with their stench, decay and blood. So ‘Eisa will beseech Allah, as will his companions.’ So Allah will send upon them birds like the necks of Bukht(milch)camels.’ They will carry them off and cast them into an abyss. The Muslims will burn their bows, arrows and quivers for seventy years.’ “He(s.a.w) said: ‘Allah will send upon them a rain which no house of hide nor mud will bear. The earth will be washed, leaving it like a mirror. Then it will be said to the earth: “bring forth your fruits and return your blessings.” So on that day, a whole troop would eat a pomegranate and seek shade under its skin. Milk will be so blessed that a large group of people will be sufficed by one milking of a camel. And that a tribe will be sufficed by one milking of a cow, and that a group will be sufficed by the milking of sheep. While it is like that, Allah will send a wind which grabs the soul of every believer, leaving the remainder of the people copulating publicly like the copulation of donkeys. Upon them the Hour shall begin.'”

[25] Hudhaifa b. Usaid reported directly from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) that he said: When the drop of (semen) remains in the womb for forty or forty five nights, the angel comes and says: My Lord, will he be good or evil? And both these things would be written. Then the angel says: My Lord, would he be male or female? And both these things are written. And his deeds and actions, his death, his livelihood; these are also recorded. Then his document of destiny is rolled and there is no addition to nor subtraction from it.
